Frequently Asked Questions

What is the National ERA Publication Task Force?

The National ERA Publication Task Force is a civic initiative formed in February 2021 to advocate for the recognition and publication of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) in the United States Constitution. Its mission is to promote constitutional literacy and ensure that the ERA is fully recognized following its ratification by the required number of states.

What is the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA)?

The Equal Rights Amendment states that:

“Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged… on account of sex.”
The amendment aims to guarantee equal legal rights for all people regardless of sex.

Has the Equal Rights Amendment been ratified?

Yes. The ERA reached the required constitutional threshold when 38 states ratified it on January 27, 2020, meeting the three-fourths requirement outlined in Article V of the U.S. Constitution.

Why has the ERA not been added to the Constitution yet?

Although the ERA reached the ratification threshold, federal officials have not formally certified or published it due to legal questions regarding the ratification deadline originally included by Congress. This has led to ongoing legal and constitutional debate.

What does the Task Force advocate for?

The Task Force works to:

  • Advocate for the publication and recognition of the ERA

  • Promote public understanding of Article V and constitutional processes

  • Encourage dialogue among scholars, institutions, and the public about constitutional equality.

When was the Task Force established?

The Task Force was formed in February 2021, shortly after the ERA reached the 38-state ratification threshold.

How can I stay informed about ERA developments?

Visitors can stay updated by joining the organization’s mailing list through the website or following its publications and updates about ERA recognition efforts.
